Black Wellness Package

The BWP was a proposal of protocols for professors to use as a guideline to foster a safe environment for Black students within classrooms. The package included an accountability system where professors were provided with new ideas towards resources to help analyze their own personal racial biases. These steps would work towards the goal of the Black Wellness Proposal establishing policies that would fill the gaps in academic support for Black students at the campus wide level at Mills College. This mission was diligently crafted and well received; it garnered the support and praise from faculty, staff, and students as well as faculty from other universities. This initiative produced both scholarly research, a pilot program in the Public Health and Equity Department, training workshops in the STEM department, grief workshops for students during national murder trials against police, and Letters of Consideration for students (and faculty) to opt for when seeking support for ‘Racial Trauma’ through the Counseling and Psychological Services.
